Changes have been made to the Schubert Club Awards Competition.

About
The Schubert Club Awards Competition offers dedicated and highly advanced music students, between the ages of 8 and 18, the opportunity to perform before a large audience and to compete for monetary prizes.
NEW: Beginning in 2026, The Schubert Club Awards Competition will be:
- Establishing a new Strings Division.
- Incorporating two rounds to The Competition to take place over two non-consecutive days: Finalists of each Group and Category from the Preliminary Round (Day 1) will progress to the Final Round (Day 2) where they will compete against Finalists in their Group for 1st place and 2nd place.
- Increasing the value of the monetary prizes offered.
Students will continue to be able to participate in a maximum of three out of the total four competition categories in his/her respective age group:
- Baroque
- Classical
- Romantic
- Impressionist and Modern
All participants will be assessed based on their musicality, strength of interpretation, and mastery of repertoire.
Eligibility to Participate:
- Students may choose to compete in a maximum of three (3) of the four (4) categories

*This list is not extensive or inclusive of all composers within each category. Teachers who want to enter works by composers not on this list and who would like to obtain confirmation of category must contact Seray Goktekin: [email protected] - Students MUST adhere to the performance time limits as listed in the table below and remain in the audition hall for the entirety of the Category(s) they are performing in.

Music & Performance Requirements
- Each entrant must provide a copy of the score(s) for the judges at the time of their performance. Photocopies are not allowed. However, entrants may use computer-generated copies from reliable sources such as PianoStreet.com and IMSLP (International Music Score Library Project) or the Petrucci Music Library provided that consent note is included.
- Entrants may use transcriptions that are considered standard repertoire (i.e., Bach’s transcriptions of Baroque concerti, transcriptions by other composers e.g. Busoni, Liszt, Rachmaninoff). Other arrangements and transcriptions are not allowed.
- Repeats are permitted only at Primary level.
- Performed pieces MUST be memorized

*Complementary, non-transferable tickets will be provided to teachers and parents of students participating in the competition.
- Applications are open to all teachers and are to be completed ONLY by teachers. Each teacher should submit one bulk payment for all their student's applications.
- Registration Fee for Non-member teacher: $150/applicant category
- Registration Fee for Member teacher: $60/applicant category
- Deadline: February 28, 2026
- All registrations are final and non-refundable
- Preliminary Round (Day 1): At the end of each Group and Category performance, Judges will be escorted out of the hall for deliberation if required. Once Judges return back into the hall, the Finalist for the respective Group and Category will be announced.
- Final Round (Day 2): At the end of the Final Round, and once all Groups have performed, Judges will be escorted out of the hall for deliberation if required. Once Judges return back into the hall, 1st and 2nd place winners for all Groups will be announced collectively.
- All Judges’ decisions are final.
- Placements are based on merit. No placements will be granted by default.
- Participants who do not progress into the Final Round will receive a Certificate of Participation on the day.
- Finalists, who do not receive Placement in the Final Round of The Competition (Day 2), will receive a Finalist Certificate on the day.
- Finalists who achieve Placement in the Final Round of The Competition (Day 2), will receive monetary prizes, as shown in the table below, in addition to a Certificate of Placement via mail.

NFMC JUNIOR
COMPOSERS CONTEST
The CT portion of this contest is sponsored by The Schubert Club.
All students living in CT through age 18 are eligible, they do not
have to be members of SC nor do their teachers.
There are monetary prizes for 1st and 2nd place winners in each
of the 4 age categories. Age is determined as of March 1

First and second prize winners go on to the Northeastern District
judging and those winners go on to National Federation of Music
Clubs judging.
First place winners will be expected to perform their piece or have
their piece performed at the Awards concert on Saturday, April 8,
2017, 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 285
Lyons Plain Road, Weston, CT.
Compositions are due to the CT State Chairperson, Justine
Macurdy, by January 31 each year.
